I try to pacify my editor by promising to fix it later - if I notice a big issue I tend to note it in square brackets and all caps rather than going back and trying to fix it.
The biggest inertia is starting, though - the idea is perfect as long as I keep it in my head, but the words that come out are invariably mundane
So I tend to give my editor its own voice, and put it in those square brackets, so my manuscripts are littered with [THAT'S SHIT], [HWORK], [I THINK I'M GOING TO BE SICK], [HE'D NEVER SPEAK LIKE THAT] and so forth. Once it's out of my head I find it easier to ignore.
Anyway, to actually answer your question: probably a week and a half. Then I got more into the swing of things.

I decided against attempting NaNo due to my inner editor being an insufferable pedant who never shuts up. You say you managed to put the lid on yours - curious as to how long it took for ths to happen?

A very nice re-design indeed, sir, and glad to see progress being made. That's a lot o' words.

Thanks for pointing that out, hadn't realised my lack of conviction. I agree writers without much conviction are annoying, and I always balk at the phrase 'wannabe writer'.

Perhaps once you are capable of writing with some conviction and able to venture past the insecure-confessional ("Gosh...gee....I can't believe I've done this") format will you be able to change the title of your blog to "published author." Nothing is more annoying to a potential reader than a writer who doesn't believe in himself.

Yeah, bryan hit the nail on the head here. I would have used comments (indeed, I did for a while), but it was too much trouble when adding comments to multiple songs was too much of a hassle, the inbuilt iTunes comment updater overwrites existing comments if you're adding them to multiple files, and I hadn't discovered Chris's TuneTag yet.

I like this system now it's set up, but I'll definitely backup my ratings to comments periodically.
